I Pity The Plants...

The ones depending on me and my black thumb!

I LOVE lushly landscaped yards! I envy my friends who have knowledge of plants and flowers, and who love working at making their yards beautiful. I want to be like them, truly I do! But I have never been able to get there!  B.J. has been known to shake his head a time or two when he sees me put a plant in my cart because he knows it will not be with us long! 😕

This old house in Texas does not have a big yard. In fact there is no backyard at all and the front and side yards are very small. And that's perfectly fine with me! We do have a court yard located between the car port and the house!  Thankfully there are several old and established plants and shrubs in it but it has aIso been terribly neglected! For the past few weeks I have been working on improving its appearance. I wish I could say it is all finished and all beautiful but neither would be true !

Here are a few pics I will share with you!

Fig ivy. I am looking forward to it covering up the ugly brick on the side of the fireplace.

Honestly

I have always heard that pictures do not lie! At the same time, I am aware that a picture will add ten pounds to a person! So which is it? Lie or no lie?

Hence my dilemma!  I have viewed pics of my living room over and over again for the past year or so and hated what I saw each and every time!  I always came up with the same conclusion basically: Too much stuff!! But then...in person it didn't seem too bad. So I did nothing about it! Until last week that is!

I cleaned! I moved! I swapped! I removed! I rearranged! And I came up with something more pleasing to the eye (mine anyway) in person and in picture!

Blue Over You

You! On the stairwell ceiling! Not that there is anything wrong with you, Blue, but you look like you should be on the wall in our sweet grandson's nursery! Blue is obviously a color that is hard to get right. I failed miserably so it's back to the drawing board, also known as the paint section at Lowes!

I Am So In Trouble!!

There is an auction house here  in Texas! In Ennis! In my neighborhood! Two blocks down the street! Dripping with all manners of scrumptious antique goodness!! And it gets even better...If I cannot attend in person, then I can bid online. Thank you to my friend who clued me in!!

And just so everyone knows...Yes, I did! Yesterday! And won this!

Yah me!!!!

If You Can't Fix It, Cover It

See the glass insert in the door? Well it's not glass, it's plastic! And it's a cross between puke green and neon green and if that's not bad enough it has white paint smeared all over it!!

It's been on the to-do list ever since we moved in this old house along with about 1,000 other things but other than replacing it I just couldn't decide what to do to cover up the eye sore.

So...for now...my quick fix is to cover it. With this! Since there's a lot going on in this room, I needed something plain and simple.  Removing the wallpaper is also on the list! But  I don't know how long it will be before we get to it!

Better, don't  you think? For now at least!

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

Or is it?

Decorating is just something I do first of all because I love it and secondly to give myself a diversion from all other cares and concerns that plaque me!

Yesterday as I sat in our TV room and talked on the phone with a friend, I must have looked like a jack in the box, jumping out of my chair over and over as I rearranged the books and accessories on the shelves!

For now I like the way they turned out, also knowing they are only one phone call away from getting a completely different look!

Sometimes when I can't decide about the placement of things, I take a picture and can immediately see what I need to do. So that's what I did here with the arrangement of the blue and white jars.

The first pic was the original arrangement. The second pic was what I thought to be the new and improved arrangement, that is, UNTIL I looked at them side by side. I think now the first one looks better. But what do I know?

Speak to me pics!  What? What did you say?

The first one? Maybe the second one? But probably the first one?

Oh good grief!!

A personal not to myself and FYI:  In light of everything else in this world and in my life, I know the shuffling of these vases is insignificant!  I will move on pretty quickly as I try not to allow things such as this to consume my thoughts or my day!
